Almost certainly we do not find renewal in once more making promises to ourselves that we will never keep.  Or somehow expelling habits that have kept us timelessly in their grip.  Or forcing open the door of an inner prison.

Truly beginning again has more to do with discovery and surprise than with resolution, pledges and oaths.

With hand upon my brow, if I pay attention I might discover that my own head is a different shape from what I’ve assumed all these years (try it now and see if that is true for you).

Picking up a rock found not far from my door, rather than ignoring its ordinariness, I am struck by its mystery.

As you speak a single word to me, I hear your familiar voice for the first time.

In the world of Sensory Awareness, discovery is always available – even urgent.  And what refreshment these surprises bring to life gone stale and flat.  No need to resolve anything:  in awareness, we are already alive in a new way, changed.  And that can grow within us to touch our entire existence, because we have glimpsed the truth of things.
